Maybe there was just a misunderstanding of the Lease... Write a polite letter to the Landlord explaining that you believe that there has been a misunderstanding. Explain that, based on your Lease Agreement, you understand that the late fee total is $X* (*please insert the correct calculation). Attach a copy of your Lease Agreement for his/her review. Ask for a written reply within a reasonable time frame (ie. 5 days...). Send the letter by certified mail, return receipt requested so that you have a record of the correspondence and the Landlord's receipt of it...
Please pay rent on the due date in the future to avoid future late fees and possible lease violations. Rent is past due if not paid on the due date stated in the Lease Agreement.
I hope you will be able to clarify the misunderstanding with your Landlord...

| my landlord is charging me a $25 late fee when our lease says it will be 5 dollars a day not to exceed $25. its one day late and she is demanding that i pay the $25 what do i do
